Chapter 0029 Powerful Black Snake Elixir (Request for Follow-up Reading)

“Young Master, you’ve finally returned,” Sir Fredrick, the Knight, opened the city gate for Li Wei, welcoming his arrival.

“Nothing untoward happened in the territory while I was away, I hope?” Li Wei asked.

“Everything is normal in the territory. Was your trip successful?”

    “More or less.”

After exchanging pleasantries with Sir Fredrick, Li Wei returned to his room. This trip had used up all the gold coins from the bottom of that iron chest; overnight, Li Wei was once again a pauper.

“But this trip yielded great rewards.”

Two vials of Dragon Saliva Fragrance, two Bloodline Breathing Methods, a stable sales channel for weapons and armor, and a bunch of miscellaneous books. Li Wei had essentially achieved the purpose of his trip.

Now everything was in place, only the elixir preparation remained.

The preparation of the Black Snake Elixir wasn’t a technical feat. Unlike the alchemy and pharmaceutical processes of his past life, it didn’t require any fire refining. It only required mixing the ingredients according to a fixed ratio, then kneading them into small pills.

Therefore, Li Wei successfully prepared two hundred elixirs.

If too many elixirs were prepared, the potency of the Dragon Saliva Fragrance would be diluted too much, rendering it ineffective. According to the formula, these two vials of Dragon Saliva Fragrance were enough for about two hundred pills. At one pill a day, it would last Li Wei for the next six months of cultivation.

With the elixirs prepared, Li Wei swallowed one, prepared some food, and eagerly began cultivating the Black Snake Breathing Method. He had been delayed these past two days.

After about an hour, Li Wei completed one cycle of the breathing method.

[Black Snake Breathing Method Proficiency +10]

“Taking the elixir makes all the difference. Normally, I only gain 1-2 points of proficiency after one cycle of the breathing method. With the elixir, it’s increased several times over. Unfortunately, at the Quasi-Knight stage, you can only take one elixir a day; more is not better.”

After taking the Black Snake Elixir, he distinctly felt a cold current flowing through his body as he practiced the Black Snake Breathing Method. This cold current seemed to be the effect of the elixir. Under its influence, Li Wei maintained a state of highly focused concentration, entering a highly efficient cultivation state.

After completing one cycle of the breathing method, wisps of white vapor began to emanate from Li Wei’s pores. After the vapor, black grime was expelled from his body.

“This… this Black Snake Elixir actually has this effect, expelling impurities from my body.”

After detoxifying and taking a shower, he felt incredibly refreshed. Li Wei, taking advantage of his heightened state, practiced the Golden Cross Slash.

    [Golden Cross Slash Proficiency +3]

“Not bad, the Black Snake Elixir seems to allow one to maintain a high degree of concentration, thereby increasing efficiency and entering a state similar to a low-level epiphany. Therefore, not only is the breathing method cultivation enhanced, but the swordsmanship training effect is also far superior to usual. This is a good thing.”

Furthermore, Li Wei wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt his physical fitness had subtly improved after taking the Black Snake Breathing Method. He guessed it might be a special effect from the first dose.

After several more cycles of the breathing method and the Golden Cross Slash, Li Wei completed his training for the day. Then he took out the Frost Wolf Breathing Method and the Giant Bear Breathing Method he had purchased at the auction.

These two breathing methods were both rudimentary-level, and bloodline breathing methods at that, the lowest in value among all breathing methods.

Li Wei first opened the Giant Bear Breathing Method’s scroll. The parchment featured small figures, similar to those in his own Black Snake Breathing Method, performing various postures. If the Black Snake Breathing Method was characterized by its strangeness, the postures in the Giant Bear Breathing Method were characterized by their broad and unrestrained movements, more like some powerful boxing techniques from his past life.

In the center of these figures was a towering giant bear, resembling a small mountain. The bear roared towards the heavens, exuding a wild aura. This was the clan emblem of the Rock Bear family: [磐岩巨熊 (磐岩巨熊 – Pan Yan Ju Xiong – Steadfast Rock Giant Bear)].

“Clearly, the Giant Bear Breathing Method focuses on strength, which complements my Black Snake Breathing Method nicely.”

Li Wei then looked at the Frost Wolf Breathing Method. The contents of its scroll were similar to the Giant Bear Breathing Method, simply figures in various postures surrounding a silver-white wolf in the center. This was the clan emblem of the Frost Wolf family: [銀色霜狼 (Yin Se Shuang Lang – Silver Frost Wolf)].

Li Wei noticed that this wolf’s appearance resembled the Mountain Wolf King he had killed, not just in appearance, but also in demeanor and aura. But since the Mountain Wolf King was already dead and reduced to ashes, the similarity didn’t matter.

“The Frost Wolf Breathing Method focuses on reaction speed and agility. Not bad! If I can learn these two breathing methods—Black Snake for defense, Rock Bear for strength, Frost Wolf for speed—wouldn’t I be a multi-faceted warrior?” Li Wei laughed.

“Let’s start with the Frost Wolf Breathing Method. My strength is acceptable, and I have armor and the Black Snake Breathing Method for defense, so I’m not lacking there. What I need most is speed and agility. In martial arts, nothing is indestructible, only speed is invincible!”

“Let’s see if I can add the Frost Wolf Breathing Method to my proficiency panel. As long as it can be added to the panel, even if it’s a forbidden divine technique, given enough time, I can level it up.”

The proficiency panel—this was Li Wei’s greatest advantage. This seemingly unremarkable cheat only reflects proficiency.

But this is the most powerful aspect of the cheat: it quantifies even the most difficult things through data-based proficiency. Li Wei simply needs to grind proficiency like a game to improve his skills.

Every effort will be rewarded. Cultivation is no longer blindly relying on experience and rough perception; instead, there is a clear benchmark, a constantly refining goal.

Mastering a breathing method doesn’t happen overnight. Li Wei spent half a month just to get started with the Black Snake Breathing Method.

Although the Frost Wolf Breathing Method was rudimentary, Li Wei would still need some time to fully understand and grasp the meaning behind those illustrated postures.

In addition to practicing breathing methods, Li Wei wasn’t idle. He had boundless energy; whenever he had free time, he would go blacksmithing. He was going to start researching the blueprints the knight had given him and try to forge armor. He had to deliver a batch of goods in three months.

Days passed, and Li Wei’s life was fulfilling. In the castle courtyard, the three brothers were growing happily. With a huge amount of food going into their bellies, their size was expanding at an almost visible rate; every time Li Wei didn’t see them for a while, they’d have grown noticeably larger.

In the year 1006 of the Emerald Era, the third day of the Flower Month. Li Wei also learned from Sir Fredrick that his two neighbors, the heirs of Frostwind Territory and Rock Cliff Territory, had successively sold their ancestral lands and moved their entire clans to Icebound City, becoming low-level landless nobles. The buyer of the lands was the Holy Radiance Church.

It was said that the church would build a new cathedral in Silvermoon Territory, allowing the holy light of the Heavenly Father to warm the people of this frigid land.

    Li Wei inwardly cursed.

He had a feeling that his peaceful life was about to be disrupted by the arrival of the church.
