Chapter 0054 [Lawless Thug Li Wei] (Request for Follow-up Reads)

On the way home, Li Wei was deep in thought. Why, the moment he left Black Water Valley, was he targeted for assassination? Why was he recognized even though he wore a mask after entering the city?

Recalling the previous assassination attempt, which also occurred right after Graf Knight Fred left the territory, he realized something.

These two incidents couldn’t possibly be coincidences. Only one possibility remained: Black Water Valley had a traitor!

A mole was constantly leaking information to the Death Knell Bell or others who wanted him dead.

Li Wei’s face darkened. Black Water Valley wasn’t large; finding the traitor wouldn’t be difficult. He already had a plan.

Upon returning to Black Water Valley, Li Wei first hid all his gold coins in his shelter’s small vault. Except for some funds to cover the castle’s daily expenses, he already knew how he’d spend the rest.

Graf Knight Fred, seeing Li Wei’s safe return, finally let out a sigh of relief.

“Young Master, you were gone for a month! You worried me sick,” Graf Knight Fred said.

“Fred, my trip yielded good results. Next, I’ll focus on my breathing technique Cultivation. I have a matter that needs your attention for the next few days,” Li Wei said.

    “No problem.”

Holy Radiance Era 1007, Green Grass Moon.

Rumors circulated that Edward, the White Horse Knight—the rising star of the Emerald Royal Family and a legendary figure in the entire Emerald Kingdom, touted as second only to legendary Knights—had failed in his attempt to break through to the Legendary Knight realm. The truth of this news remained uncertain; afterward, the royal family declared it a rumor, claiming the White Horse Knight was still pursuing his legendary path, with the final outcome yet to be determined.

If the White Horse Knight were to become a Legendary Knight, he would likely be the first born after the millennium to achieve such a feat.

The Emerald Royal Family’s status would also rise accordingly. A Legendary Knight would be enough to deter many ambitious, covetous nobles and underground forces.

Meanwhile, in Icewind City, the Church released its findings regarding the fire that had occurred over a month ago. It was determined that someone had murdered Graf Knight Bernard and set fire to his mansion. The Church found Bernard’s unburnt remains in the ashes of Bernard’s mansion fireplace. The Church strongly condemned this act of murder and arson.

For a time, Icewind City was filled with fear. Graf Knight Bernard, known for his humor, wit, and frugality, had died at the hands of an unnamed lawless thug. Where was the thug’s conscience?

Furthermore, Graf Knight Bernard was a true Knight, a mid-level Knight, one of the best. If even he wasn’t a match for the thug, who in Icewind City, besides Silver Mountain Earl, a Great Knight, and a handful of high and peak-level Knights, could guarantee their survival against such a lawless thug?

Silver Mountain Earl was furious, considering it a provocation. He deployed his Silver Fang Guard for round-the-clock patrols of Icewind City, vowing to fight against the darkness!

Back in Black Water Valley, the culprit behind Graf Knight Bernard’s murder, Baron Li Wei, the lawless thug, was concocting potions in his shelter. After this period of preparation, he had refined all thirteen bottles of Dragon Saliva Fragrance into potions. Next, he would level up while consuming them.

“The soldier disguised as me has already left Black Water Valley. Let’s see who takes the bait,”

Li Wei muttered to himself in his shelter.

After returning to Black Snake Castle, Li Wei rarely appeared in public. He felt that there was a traitor within the castle.

So tonight, he planned an experiment. During the day, he had a soldier with a similar build and appearance to his own dress up as him, wear his clothes, ride his horse, and leave Black Water Valley, claiming to be visiting a friend in Icewind City.

Black Water Valley is such a small place. If there was indeed a traitor, they would surely sneak out unnoticed to send a message. After all, this world didn’t have cell phones; they could only send messages manually. Li Wei wanted to see who would leave the valley tonight.

Li Wei didn’t know if this method would work, but it was worth a try. If it failed, he would think of other ways.

In his shelter, Li Wei cultivated while waiting for news.

Because of the month he spent away, his breathing technique Cultivation had fallen behind, but now that he had the potions, he could quickly catch up.

After consuming a potion, he cultivated the Black Snake Breathing Technique.

His proficiency in the Black Snake Breathing Technique immediately increased by 20 points.

With his rising level, his efficiency in cultivating breathing techniques increased significantly, and Li Wei’s appetite grew as well.

Unlike Graf Knight Fred, Li Wei’s breathing technique Cultivation was in a period of rapid growth. Graf Knight Fred, being older, was already on the decline; his vital energy was beginning to wane, reducing his need for food.

Li Wei, however, was in his prime, his vital energy constantly expanding. However, after advancing to the Official Knight rank, his food digestion and utilization rate was several times that of a Preliminary Knight.

Even though he ate more than he did in the Preliminary Knight stage, he only had a bowel movement once or twice a day. Most of the substances and nutrients in the food were efficiently absorbed by the Life Seed, used to catalyze the black energy and strengthen his physical fitness.

Although Li Wei had not yet advanced to Mid-Level Knight, he could feel that, as his proficiency increased, the amount of black energy in his body was slowly increasing—a process of gradual quantitative change. The key point of qualitative change was the threshold of each realm.

After cultivating the Black Snake Breathing Technique, Li Wei began cultivating the Sea Demon Breathing Technique. This breathing technique didn’t require potions; it was simply a matter of persistent practice.

Li Wei had been cultivating the Sea Demon Breathing Technique for only a few months, and it was already second-level, with most of the progress bar complete. He estimated he could reach the third level next month.

The more he cultivated breathing techniques, the more Li Wei realized that, whether speed-type or strength-type, they seemed different but were fundamentally similar.

Sometimes, Li Wei even felt that all breathing techniques might share a common origin.

In short, Li Wei estimated that, in the future, the higher his realm and the more advanced breathing techniques he mastered, the faster he would be able to cultivate a breathing technique from beginner to mastery. He even believed that one day, mastering a breathing technique from beginner to expert in a month wouldn’t be impossible.

Shortly after finishing the Sea Demon Breathing Technique, he vaguely heard a commotion and the roars of the three brothers from the castle. Li Wei’s heart stirred; it seemed Graf Knight Fred and the others had made their move, and he rose to leave.

On a small path outside the castle, the three brothers surrounded a man, baring their teeth and growling at him.

Soon, Li Wei and Graf Knight Fred arrived. The soldier, surrounded, looked panicked.

    “My Lord? You’re back?”
