Chapter 86: Expired Parents (Seeking Readership)
“I have two more hostages, two you would never expect.”
Bane spread his hand, and the venom slowly began to infuse his body, making his already imposing figure expand inch by inch.
On one side of his body, green plants grew from beneath his flesh, breaking through his muscles and skin, causing Bane to bleed bright red.
The other side of his body, on the other hand, was rapidly decaying. A strong stench spread from that half of his body, the flesh cracking inch by inch, oozing yellowish-brown fluids.
These two forces were wrestling with each other at the dividing line of his body, as if they were about to tear Bane in half. Then, with Bane’s nose as the center, the middle section of his body quickly turned a ghastly white with veins, was this Amber Gold’s modification?
The venom gurgled into his body, and the three forces somehow reached a strange equilibrium, appearing simultaneously on Bane’s body, making him look like…
Well, a three-color ice cream?
Bruce Wayne knew this analogy was inappropriate and disrespectful, but this transformed state did add a touch of drama to Bane’s serious and cruel life.
Bane stretched out his arm, which was soaked in the power of Decaying Black. He made a slight grabbing motion in the air, as if guiding some formless and intangible force to infuse his entire body.
The decaying half of his body swelled again, but was immediately suppressed by the combined efforts of Amber Gold and All Things Green.
“Come now…”
Bruce Wayne felt a shiver run down his spine.
He heard a rustling sound, like some giant rats digging a tunnel underground, trying to burrow into Arkham Asylum.
Bruce Wayne’s mind tightened.
What was that!
He silently transformed his body into the nano-batsuit, and the dark veil gradually condensed in the room.
Bruce Wayne was fully prepared, no matter what crawled out from the floor, it would be met with a thunderous blow the moment it appeared.
Decaying Black, Decaying Black!
Did Bane and Decaying Black have some sort of collusion? What would crawl out from under the ground, some huge rotting worm? A corpse-covered beast?
It wouldn’t be some dead centipede, stitched together with various incomplete limbs, howling as it burst out of the ground, right?
Bruce Wayne’s mind raced, going through every possibility in those few seconds, he was amazed at how fast his mind was working.
Was the Lazarus Pit water I prepared enough?
Amidst all the wild thoughts, the sound stopped.
Whatever was digging underground finally reached the floor below.
A cold sweat dripped from Bruce Wayne’s forehead.
A crack, the floor creaked.
Then, in the next second, a ghastly white hand pulling a head, smashed through the floor, roaring to the sky in the room!
This terrible monster, uh…
Wait, what was this?
Bruce Wayne widened his eyes, unable to believe what he saw… two…
Zombies.
“Unforgivable…”
Bruce Wayne said.
“I sense this power is called Decaying Black,” Bane replied. “You may not understand how terrifying this power is.”
“The line between life and death has never been so blurred before me, I have come close to death countless times, I was prepared to embrace death…”
“But I never imagined that one day, I would master death.”
“Batman.” He said seriously, “I now understand so clearly… death is not the end of everything, but the beginning, the beginning of everything.”
“Unforgivable…”
Bruce Wayne muttered to himself.
“Therefore, Batman, I proudly introduce my last two hostages.”
“Thomas Wayne.”
The slightly taller zombie roared, a sound like a broken saxophone emanating from his leaky throat.
“Martha Wayne.”
The slightly shorter zombie followed with a howl, shrill, piercing, filled with hatred for all the living beings on earth.
A pearl necklace hung around her neck. Perfect, pure.
Bruce Wayne covered his face, weeping softly.
“Unforgivable…”
A powerful rage brewed in his voice, “How dare you? How dare you to my parents – ”
Wait.
Weren’t those Batman’s parents?
A bolt of lightning struck Bruce Wayne’s brain, dispelling all the sadness in his mind.
???
Why should I be sad? Those weren’t my parents. I’m Bruce Wayne, a time traveler, Batman’s parents’ grave was dug up, what does it have to do with me?
Bruce Wayne realized why he had never considered Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne, because he had simply never cared about those two corpses, he had never subconsciously thought of them as anything that could threaten him.
How could he possibly have a plan to prevent them from being robbed?
!
“Do you think I don’t know about Clayface? Do you think I would be stupid enough to not prepare anything against Clayface? I’m disappointed, Batman, you actually underestimated me… this is why you failed.”
Bane slowly walked to the middle of the two zombies: “Although you replaced all my hostages with Clayface, it still surprised me. But I never intended to rely entirely on those hostages to shake your mind.”
Bruce Wayne lowered his head, his shoulders twitching as if he were sobbing.
Bane looked down at him.
This huge blow, this devastating blow, seemed to shock and anger Batman, leaving him without any will to fight.
The success of this plan, the achievement of deceiving Batman, made Bane’s head feel slightly dizzy:
“That little book you wrote for me about how to deal with Joker, it also revealed how to deal with you in a way… it’s almost like you wrote a confession to me!”
“Vile…”
Bane saw Batman covering his face, he got up from his seat, then clutched his stomach, and suddenly fell to the ground, slowly bowing his body.
“I knew that the hostages I kidnapped might be replaced by Clayface, I knew that even if I kidnapped those hostages, I wouldn’t be able to keep them in front of you… but I still did it. Everything was a trick, Batman!”
“Those hostages distracted you, Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock, you were too focused on them, and you forgot to guard against your most important two people!”
“It’s all written in your book… how to deal with Joker? Distract him, how to deal with Batman? Distract… him!”
“So now… [Death is Near].”
Bane controlled the two zombies to stand in front of him.
“If you want to attack me in this next fight, you have to personally, turn your parents, into dust!”
Even with Bane’s scheming, he could no longer contain the elation in his voice.
The approaching victory, the trepidation, pushed his blood straight to his brain – if he still had blood flowing in his veins.
Batman fell to his knees, covering his face, slowly twitching.
“Wuwuwu… wuwuwu…”
“God, you’re not crying, are you?” Bane said.
“Wuwuwu, uwuha, uwuhahahahaha!”
“What?”
Bane’s expression changed bit by bit, his original excited expression froze on his face.
“Hehehe, hahaha, hehehehahaha!”
Bruce Wayne let out a hysterical laugh, he laughed so hard he fell to the ground, rolling around, pounding the ground with his hands!
“Hahaha, hahaha, hahahahahaha!”
