Cheng Yunshuo said this and turned to leave, walking away from Leisure Pavilion without looking back. Everyone in the pavilion was startled, their eyes wide with shock as they stared at Xing Dai Rong. “Miss Xing, are you truly insane?” Qingfeng couldn’t help but ask.

Xing Dai Rong glared at him fiercely, “I’m simply returning the hurt he inflicted on me! He was the one who bullied me first! He deserves it!”

No one in the courtyard dared to speak another word. Just then, Qiu Kui returned with the embroiderer, only to be met with a strange and eerie atmosphere. “What’s going on here?”

The little maids in the courtyard quickly explained what had happened after Qiu Kui had left to fetch the embroiderer. Qiu Kui exclaimed, “Miss Xing, you’re being foolish!”

“You shut your mouth too! Cheng Yunshuo was the one who wronged me first. He swore that he would pamper and indulge me for the rest of his life, but in the end, nothing! He wouldn’t even give me a new autumn robe!”

Qiu Kui was speechless with anger. She pointed at Xing Dai Rong and breathed heavily, “The Young Master gave me money as soon as he returned and told me to find an embroiderer to make you new clothes!”

Xing Dai Rong, who had felt triumphant and let out a sigh of relief, suddenly stopped upon hearing Qiu Kui’s words. Qiu Kui didn’t know how to describe Xing Dai Rong. She simply shook her head and said, “It’s over, Miss Xing. You’re truly finished.”

That night, Cheng Yunshuo stayed at Concubine Qiu’s place.

The next morning, Xing Dai Rong intended to go to Qiuxiang Courtyard to find him, only to hear the servants say that Cheng Yunshuo had left early that morning to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at the villa with Lu Lingyun.

He was gone.

The entire Mid-Autumn Festival passed in a blink. Lu Lingyun and Cheng Yunshuo stayed at the villa for several days. This time, it wasn’t her who instigated it; Cheng Yunshuo was the one who insisted on staying at the villa for a few more days.

Lady Qin was very pleased with her son’s sudden change. Ever since he met Xing Dai Rong, he had been distant from his parents, no longer seeking their affection. This Mid-Autumn Festival, not only did he obediently come back for the reunion, he also stayed at the villa peacefully and kept them company for several days. He chatted with them during the day, played chess, and even accepted the position of a Golden Armor Guard that the Old Marquis arranged for him without any objections. He was like the old days, harmonious and filial, a loving father and son.

This made Lady Qin even more satisfied with Lu Lingyun. She had truly married a good daughter-in-law!

Since Lu Lingyun’s arrival, the chaotic Ningyang Houfu gradually settled down. It was undoubtedly the daughter-in-law’s merit. Lady Qin and the Old Marquis observed this with their own eyes and grew increasingly fond of and satisfied with Lu Lingyun.

They also heard about Lu Lingyun resolving the matters of repairing the house and the Gathering Fortune Pavilion. They were further convinced of her abilities.

The family spent Mid-Autumn Festival happily at the villa. Lu Lingyun received numerous gifts from the old couple. She and Cheng Yunshuo returned to the Houfu together.

Upon returning, Cheng Yunshuo immediately went to take up the post the Old Marquis had arranged for him. The Golden Armor Guard was the capital’s city guard, responsible for protecting the capital and the Imperial Palace. As the son of a noble family, his starting position was a Lieutenant. He first patrolled the Imperial Palace, and then he could be promoted to serve the Emperor as the Imperial Golden Armor Guard.

This was a leisurely post, reserved for the sons of noble families, often only a nominal position that required no actual work. Of course, some did serve diligently, and those were sure to be promoted.

Cheng Yunshuo used to refuse even a nominal position, but now he had no objections. He even went to work every day. He worked during the day, and at night, he rested at Qiuxiang Courtyard. He hadn’t set foot in Leisure Pavilion even once.

Xing Dai Rong hadn’t seen Cheng Yunshuo for over ten days, and she was truly panicked. She didn’t hesitate to try her old tricks again, going to Qiuxiang Courtyard to try and bring him back, but this time, she couldn’t even get past the door of Qiuxiang Courtyard.

Cheng Yunshuo truly didn’t want to see her.

Several days of setbacks filled her heart with panic. The next day, Xing Dai Rong went to find Cheng Yunshuo at work.

Cheng Yunshuo was on duty at the Capital’s City Guard. After starting work, he had made many new friends. His old drinking buddies from before had all grown distant.
