In the end, he didn’t chase after her. He turned around, his face ashen, and went back to Qiuling’s room. He didn’t know what to do or how to do it. He couldn’t possibly cave to Xing Dai Rong’s crying and tantrums like he used to. Their heartache was all overheard by Lu Lingyun. She finished her dinner in her room, listening to Chunxing return and excitedly tell her about it. Lu Lingyun lazily got up after listening. “Young Madam, don’t you find it satisfying? Seeing them like this, that vixen must have fallen out of favor.” Lu Lingyun shook her head, not wanting to talk about them. “Did you make arrangements with Qiro? We’re going to offer incense at Xiangji Temple tomorrow.” “Young Madam, it’s all arranged,” said Shuanghong. “Then get some rest early.” Lu Lingyun had been preoccupied with the Houfu’s affairs, and it was getting a bit boring. She had a date with Wang Qiro tomorrow to offer incense and enjoy the autumn scenery. The maple leaves were now a vibrant red, and taking a stroll on such an autumn day would be a leisurely delight. Early the next morning, Lu Lingyun got in her carriage and left the Houfu. She only brought Shuanghong, Chunhe, and two male servants from the estate. By the time the carriage arrived at Xiangji Temple, the sun was high in the sky. She had just stopped when a young woman in a yellow dress and a straw hat ran towards her. “Lingyun!” “Qiro.” Lu Lingyun was a married woman, so she didn’t need to wear a straw hat when she went out. Wang Qiro was unmarried, so it wasn’t appropriate for her to show her face. The two of them met at the foot of Xiangji Temple, and Wang Qiro happily took Lu Lingyun’s arm and started walking up the mountain. The entire mountain was painted in crimson, the autumn wind rustling through the maple leaves, a breathtaking sight. There were many devout men and women going up and down the steps on the mountain. “How have you been lately?” asked Wang Qiro. “Very well.” “I heard your Young Master recently reported to the Duwei’s estate. My father said he’s turned over a new leaf, and he commended him. My mother said it’s all thanks to you, that whoever marries you will have a prosperous family.” Lu Lingyun chuckled. “How is General Madam doing?” “She’s doing well, but my mother has been a bit of a nuisance lately.” “Why?” Wang Qiro leaned in and whispered in Lu Lingyun’s ear, “She’s been looking for a suitable marriage for me.” Hearing this, Lu Lingyun became interested. “Do you have someone in mind?” “Don’t even mention it,” Wang Qiro quickly shook her head. “Tell me. I can give you some advice.” “They’re all my father’s students,” Wang Qiro said with an unhappy face. “They’re all big and burly, and they just look repulsive.” “Then what kind of man do you like?” Lu Lingyun looked at her with a mischievous smile. Wang Qiro turned her head away. “I like someone who’s learned.” At that moment, they reached the top of Xiangji Temple. A group of men dressed as scholars were walking out of the temple. The sunlight was perfect, illuminating the red leaves in front of the Xiangji Temple’s main hall, as fiery as the young men’s ambition. Lu Lingyun immediately noticed a man in a white robe at the center of the group. He had a handsome face like jade, a gentle and courteous demeanor, and a faint smile on his face, which made people feel at ease. Lu Lingyun saw him, and he saw Lu Lingyun. Their eyes met, and the man was slightly taken aback. Quickly, he recovered. He stopped in front of Lu Lingyun and gave her a humble bow. “I didn’t expect it to be my elder sister-in-law. My respects to you, Elder Sister.” It was none other than Lu Lingyun’s former husband in her previous life, Li Wenxun.
