Cheng Yunshuo couldn’t believe his ears. He turned to Luo Heng, “You want to marry Xing Dai Rong?” Luo Heng, the epitome of a refined gentleman, smiled, his hand reaching out to clasp Xing Dai Rong’s waist. “Dai Rong is an extraordinary woman. I have long harbored affections for her. Had she not been smitten with you back then, I would have never reluctantly let her go. Now that you don’t cherish her, I am willing to take her as my wife, to spend my life with her.”

Cheng Yunshuo felt like he was going to explode with rage. This was impossible! “Xing Dai Rong, I’m giving you another chance. Come back to me, and I’ll pretend nothing happened.”

Xing Dai Rong sneered, her lips curling into a mocking smile. “What do you think? Go back with you? Do you think I can’t live without you? Let me tell you, if you don’t treasure me, there will be others who will!”

“When I asked you to marry me, you kept saying this won’t work, that won’t work. You wouldn’t agree to divorce, you wouldn’t elope with me. The truth is, you never took me seriously. Since you’ve been so heartless, don’t blame me for being ruthless! I’ll marry Luo Heng. You can regret it!”

The more she spoke, the more relieved she felt. Seeing Cheng Yunshuo’s shocked and enraged expression brought her immense satisfaction. At last, she had finally gotten her revenge!

Cheng Yunshuo, choked with fury, his eyes bloodshot, stared at Xing Dai Rong for a long time. “Do you really think he’ll take you as his wife? Do you have any brains at all?”

“Of course!” Xing Dai Rong declared resolutely, her brow etched with confidence and pride. “Cheng Yunshuo, I told you before, I have a secret method to make you famous and powerful. You didn’t recognize it, but others will!”

“Shh!” At this moment, Luo Heng, beside her, gently hushed her. His voice and expression were full of tender affection.

Witnessing their intimate display, Cheng Yunshuo could no longer contain himself. “Xing Dai Rong, you’ll regret this!”

“You’re the one who will regret it!”

Xing Dai Rong watched as Cheng Yunshuo, filled with anger, stormed away with his entourage. It was exhilarating. She turned to Luo Heng beside her, “Luo Heng, you really will marry me, right?”

“Of course. As long as your gunpowder formula is successful, I will marry you with all the pomp and ceremony, with a grand procession of red-lacquered carriages.” Luo Heng lifted her chin, his gaze intense and filled with longing.

Deep in those amorous eyes gleamed a cunning glint.

Xing Dai Rong, her eyes filled with satisfaction and anticipation, listened intently. Cheng Yunshuo had scoffed at the notion of marrying her as a legitimate wife; she would prove him wrong, she would hit back hard.

She would make Cheng Yunshuo regret his actions, regret it until his guts turned green with remorse.

Cheng Yunshuo, consumed by resentment, returned to the Houfu (侯府 – the Hou’s Mansion).

Lu Lingyun, having heard the day’s events from Qingfeng, her brow furrowed as she listened.

“Xing Dai Rong has a secret method to make one famous and powerful?”

“That’s what I heard, but I don’t know what it is exactly,” Qingfeng replied truthfully.

Lu Lingyun pondered, her brows knit together.

Xing Dai Rong was a woman of impulsive actions, but she certainly had a head full of bizarre ideas. She had come up with several things that had captivated people’s attention: Arabic numerals, watermelon juice, barbecue… She once blurted out that she was from another world.

As someone who had been reborn once, Lu Lingyun believed anything was possible. Perhaps Xing Dai Rong truly was from another world, a world even more extraordinary and novel than the one they knew.

But…

In her previous life, Lu Lingyun lived for over a decade. Even after she received her official title, she had never heard about Xing Dai Rong and Cheng Yunshuo becoming famous or powerful. They had been arguing and fighting in Jiangnan for over a decade, and eventually, they grew tired of each other and never returned to the Houfu. It meant they had neither the backing nor the face to go back.

If she truly possessed some kind of secret weapon, why would she end up in such a miserable state in her later years?

The more she thought about it, the more Lu Lingyun realized that the secret weapon was likely just a flashy gimmick, nothing more. Xing Dai Rong probably had been played by Cheng Yunshuo, ultimately achieving nothing.

For instance, Xing Dai Rong’s idea for a buffet.
