Chapter 25: The Pavilion Masters’ Exchange Group, and the Pokémon Supervisory Bureau
Rota Street wasn’t small; it was practically the size of a town, almost a city. However, its rather remote location, with only the city of Orudoran as a notable landmark, kept it relatively low-key.
“Gu Xin, where are we going?”
Eileen, as usual, wore a casual sundress. She seemed to have a fondness for them; in Gu Xin’s observation, she wore a different style every day of the week.
“Do you have any ideas?”
Gu Xin pondered, admitting he was undecided. Or rather, this was his first time planning a proper “trip” since arriving in this world.
“Um… I don’t know.” Eileen frowned, a little conflicted.
As the current queen of Orudoran, Eileen mostly resided in the castle and rarely went out. This outing was a hard-won opportunity to spend time with Gu Xin.
“In the Kanto Region, many famous towns have unique characteristics. If you’re truly stumped, shall we go see the sea?” Gu Xin suggested.
This was his first “long journey” too. If it were only him, he would have gone to Lavender Town. Simply put, Lavender Town had a high concentration of Ghost-type Pokémon, especially since the Kanto region’s famous Pokémon Tower cemetery was located there.
The Pokémon Tower was Kanto’s largest cemetery, renowned alongside the Mt. Pyre in Hoenn, the Lost Tower in Sinnoh, and the Celestial Tower in Unova.
Of course, according to later plot developments, the Pokémon Tower would be remodeled into the Lavender Radio Tower, and the Pokémon buried there would be moved to a new cemetery called the Soul’s House.
Gu Xin wanted to go to Lavender Town to catch a Gastly-line Pokémon; a Gengar would be quite a powerful asset. But with Eileen accompanying him on their first outing, he couldn’t possibly bring her to a graveyard.
“Great!”
Eileen agreed with a gentle smile.
“Time is rather tight. Going to Cinnabar Island would have been perfect, but the boat tickets are only available tomorrow, and we might not have enough time.”
Gu Xin checked his phone. Cinnabar Island was Kanto’s famous hot spring resort, incredibly popular. Today’s tickets were sold out; they could only book for tomorrow.
“Then let’s go to Viridian City? They have nice beaches too.”
Though disappointed—she had wanted to experience Cinnabar Island’s sunny beaches and hot springs with Gu Xin—Queen Eileen was considerate and suggested an alternative. They could always visit Cinnabar Island later.
“Okay.”
Gu Xin nodded. Viridian City was much closer than Cinnabar Island.
After a brief discussion, they prepared to call a private car to Viridian City.
“Pavilion Master Gu Xin.”
Just then, a passing Officer Jenny in uniform approached them.
“Officer Jenny, is there something you need?”
Gu Xin subtly observed Jenny: she wore the standard Kanto uniform, had light green hair, and possessed a handsome, spirited face. Hmmm… he couldn’t tell.
After a while, Gu Xin gave up. He’d encountered several Jennys in Rota Street over the past few days, but couldn’t distinguish them.
The Pokémon world was indeed amazing, especially regarding genetics. “Jenny” wasn’t a personal name but that of a large police family. The Jenny family was spread across various regions, and, like the Joy family, they were a crucial pillar of the Pokémon League.
The most astonishing aspect was the Jenny and Joy family genes! Each family member looked almost identical, with only minor differences imperceptible to the average person.
So, it was quite extraordinary. But considering the Pokémon world had humans marrying Pokémon and even producing offspring, it wasn’t so surprising.
Thinking of Pokémon and humans combining, Gu Xin subconsciously thought of the green-haired handsome man in Unova. He was a very special human, and Gu Xin wondered if he had received the Dragon God’s approval in this world.
Gu Xin pondered this, along with a key question he’d always been curious about: was the man’s father a Pokémon, or his mother? And which Pokémon?
Gu Xin was genuinely curious.
“Nothing important, Pavilion Master Gu Xin. Are you heading out?”
Officer Jenny greeted Eileen, then smiled at Gu Xin. While almost every Jenny was a justice-filled officer, they were easygoing in daily life. If you needed help, they’d happily assist if they weren’t busy.
“Yes, I’m going for a two-day training trip in the wild. It’ll better prepare me for challengers.”
“Pavilion Master Gu Xin’s dedication is a blessing to Rota Street.”
Jenny was pleased. As Rota Street’s Officer Jenny, she had a strong sense of belonging. The Rota Pavilion improving benefited the entire street.
And a Pavilion Master going on a two-day training trip wasn’t unusual. Which Pavilion Master stays cooped up in the Pavilion like a shut-in? Pavilion Trainers are still trainers who need training.
“But Pavilion Master Gu Xin, please be mindful of time; even for training, you can’t leave the Pavilion for too long,” Jenny cautioned.
“I understand, thank you for the reminder.” Gu Xin replied with a smile.
“Also, Pavilion Master Gu Xin, watch out for any strange challengers lately.” Officer Jenny glanced around, leaning closer to Gu Xin, whispering.
“Officer Jenny, what do you mean?” Gu Xin raised an eyebrow.
“I can’t say much; it’s a top-down order. However, I believe Pavilion Master Gu Xin will become an excellent Pavilion Trainer, and you’ll manage.”
Jenny’s voice remained soft, her beautiful face kind. That was all she could say. She’d witnessed Gu Xin’s transformation—a fresh graduate from Pokémon School inheriting a Pavilion. Lately, the Pavilion was improving, showing Gu Xin’s dedication.
“Thank you, I understand.”
Gu Xin knew what this meant: because of the recent negative reputation, the Pokémon League’s Pokémon Supervisory Bureau had secretly sent inspectors.
Pokémon Supervisory Officers regularly inspected and investigated Pavilions, reporting findings to the Pokémon Supervisory Bureau to decide on actions.
Gu Xin took this seriously. The Rota Pavilion was new; if the inspectors deemed it unsuitable, it would be a major problem.
The Cerulean Pavilion could hold out until Misty returned from Johto to take over without being targeted by the League because it was the Cerulean Pavilion. It was one of Kanto’s official Pavilions, contributing significantly to the Kanto Pokémon League’s history; therefore, the League’s tolerance was high. Its poor reviews were due to a generational gap, not the heir’s lack of effort, and the League knew Misty was traveling. The League was willing to give it time. The newly established Rota Pavilion didn’t have the same background.
But it wasn’t a significant issue. Gu Xin considered himself a capable Trainer, more than able to handle the inspectors.
“By the way, Pavilion Master Gu Xin, the Pokémon Supervisory Bureau plans to create a chat group for Kanto Pavilion Masters, allowing for communication and mutual improvement.”
Officer Jenny, about to leave, mentioned this.
“A Pavilion Master exchange group? Okay.” Gu Xin was surprised, but it was a good idea.
“Kanto has many excellent Pavilion Masters. Learn from senior Pavilion Masters, such as Pavilion Master Sakaki of Pewter City; he’s an excellent and powerful Trainer. This will greatly benefit you.”
“If you wish to join, contact the Supervisory Bureau.”
“Thank you, Officer Jenny. I will.”
Gu Xin nodded, but his gaze was peculiar.
Kanto’s excellent senior Pavilion Masters? Sakaki-senpai?
It made sense, as Sakaki maintained a good public image as a Pavilion Master.
But if those senior Pavilion Masters in Kanto were truly excellent…
Gu Xin pictured the Pavilion Masters.
In the games, they were responsible. In the anime, they had quirky personalities, but it was acceptable. But if it was the manga special version… it would be hilarious.
