Chapter 18: The Greed of Humanity

That evening, Ye Yun, Hu Ke, and Rios were all resting at Clara’s house. Clara’s house was quite nice, a two-story small building. Ye Yun cooked a few stir-fried dishes, ate dinner with the two younger ones, and then went to sleep.

Swaro, however, was still busy. It had issued a task to the wanderers in the mechanical settlement to collect Star Crystals. It allowed these people to exchange Star Crystals for supplies.

Initially, the wanderers didn’t believe it. After all, Star Crystals were useless except for their appearance. How could they possibly be exchanged for precious food?

Until someone successfully exchanged for supplies.

In the settlement’s tent area, a wanderer walked from Swaro’s side, carrying a heavy bag of rice on his back.

“No way? You can really exchange for supplies?”

In an instant, all the wanderers in the settlement were agitated.

Good heavens! These Star Crystals could actually be exchanged for supplies from Swaro!

All the wanderers in the settlement swarmed into the wilderness to search for Star Crystals. Everyone scrambled, fearing they would be too late to exchange for supplies.

“Don’t grab it! I found this one!”

“What makes it yours? Once it’s in my hand, it’s mine!”

“Hey! Are you looking for a fight?”

“Bring it on! You think I’m afraid of you?”

The wanderers quickly erupted into a large riot.

It proved that under the pressure of absolute gain, people cannot control their behavior. Slowly, the chaos escalated from verbal arguments to bloody brawls. There were even casualties.

Star Crystals had become the hope of the wanderers in the mechanical settlement. Anyone who tried to cut off their hope of survival would not live either!

After learning about this, Swaro immediately dispatched mechs to maintain order, violently suppressing any fights. Only then did the wanderers calm down.

The commotion from this farce was quite loud, waking up Hu Ke, Clara, and Ye Yun from their sleep. They were now sitting in the living room eating instant noodles.

Ye Yun slurped a mouthful of noodles and glanced at Swaro standing outside.

“Swaro, what’s wrong? You seem to be spacing out.”

    Swaro looked at Ye Yun.

“Nothing, I just don’t understand why these people would fight over a Star Crystal. It’s something that can be obtained by diligently searching for supplies.”

“I’m wondering if they wouldn’t have rioted if I hadn’t issued the order to exchange Star Crystals for supplies in the first place.”

Ye Yun took a sip of the noodle soup.

“You did nothing wrong; the method was wrong.”

“If I were you, I would choose a ‘work for supplies’ approach.”

“This way, you can efficiently manage these people and build some infrastructure.”

“Such as housing. Look at the people in your settlement; they all live in tents.”

Upon hearing this, Swaro’s computer brain whirred.

    “I understand.”

    Ye Yun nodded with satisfaction.

“That’s right. Don’t rush the exchange. You can have the mechs collect supplies.”

“If you want to exchange supplies, have Clara contact me. You know what a phone is, right?”

    Swaro nodded.

    “It’s in the database.”

Ye Yun threw the empty instant noodle container into the trash can and patted Swaro.

“I’m going to rest. You keep busy.”

After saying that, Ye Yun went back to rest with Hu Ke and Clara.

After pondering for a moment, Swaro decided to adopt Ye Yun’s method. This method was indeed very suitable for the mechanical settlement, as it could efficiently manage the wanderers and improve the surrounding facilities and equipment.

So, Swaro directly issued an order, removing the supply exchange point and changing it to a work-for-pay point.

The wanderers in the mechanical settlement who hadn’t had a chance to exchange supplies felt like the sky had fallen when they heard the news.

“What! Star Crystals can’t be exchanged for supplies anymore?”

“No way, you guys are so fast! Usually you look listless, but when it comes to grabbing supplies, you’re all energetic!”

“Damn it! One of you must have angered Swaro! Otherwise, why wouldn’t they let us exchange? Look, there’s still so much supplies over there!”

The crowd looked towards the nearby supply storage point, which was overflowing with supplies.

Someone still thought about asking if they could exchange and tried to stop a “traffic light” mech.

“There are still supplies here, why don’t you let us exchange?”

The traffic light mech stopped and looked at the person blocking its way.

“Latest order: Stop exchanging supplies; switch to ‘work for supplies’. Those who want supplies can gather here tomorrow to receive work. After the work is finished, you can get supplies.”

After saying this, the traffic light mech continued transporting supplies with its short legs.

Seeing that they couldn’t exchange supplies, the wanderers could only dejectedly return to their tents to rest.

In Pan Rock Town, Natasha was treating March 7th, Dan Heng, Xing, and Broniya.

Quickly, Natasha concluded that the four had only been knocked unconscious by sleeping drugs and would be fine after resting. So, Natasha arranged for the four to rest in a room.

Closing the door, Natasha looked at Sambo waiting beside her.

“Tell me, what is the background of these people?”

    Sambo chuckled.

“They are just people from our lower city. I found them in a pile of ore; old Sambo is a kind person, how could I just leave them to die?”

Natasha didn’t speak, but stared at Sambo, with an expression that said, “I’m watching you continue to act.”

Seeing this, Sambo could only truthfully tell her the four’s identities.

Upon learning their identities, Natasha frowned. Especially Broniya’s identity: the heir to the Great Guardian! If this wasn’t handled well, the lower city might face utter destruction.

Xing, March 7th, and Dan Heng were not particularly troublesome, even though they were wanted criminals from the upper city. However, the Silvermane Guards wouldn’t come here to arrest them. There were many wanted criminals in the lower city, all under the surveillance of the Earth Fire.

“I understand. Go back. I will take care of these people.”

    Sambo bowed deeply.

“Thank you, Big Sister. Old Sambo will take his leave.”

After Sambo left, Natasha called a few nurses.

“Take good care of these few people. There must be no mistakes.”

After the nurses agreed, Natasha returned to her office. Unlike this morning, there was a large burlap sack in the corner. Natasha approached and opened it, revealing Star Crystals inside.

Natasha picked one up and looked at it, then opened her notebook.

    【Current Star Crystal Count: 1365】

These were all the Star Crystals that Earth Fire could currently collect. After today’s order, all members of Earth Fire went out to search, turning every inch of land under their control upside down.

At this time, Seele pushed open the door and entered, holding a small pouch.

“Natasha, I’m back. These are the Star Crystals I found in Rivet Town.”
