Starry Sky Professional Directory 4
Chapter 4: Moonlight (Seeking Collections)
Even on his way to school, Fang Xing was still pondering the issue of powerful weapons. His Martial Dao journey had just begun; he hadn’t even finished refining his first realm, “skin and flesh,” making him nothing more than a small shrimp. Carelessly traversing to another world would easily lead to danger. But humanity’s greatest strength lies in its ability to utilize tools and leverage external forces!
“A laser gun, if I had a military-grade one, that would be awesome…” A military-grade laser gun certainly wouldn’t have a “cannot be used on people” program restriction; it would be a small killing machine.
“Forget about normal stores; the black market is the place…”
Fang Xing kicked a pebble.
Whoosh!
The pebble flew gracefully, landing in a small river and skipping across the surface more than a dozen times.
Within the Blue Star Federation, humanity was far from harmonious; conflicts had persisted since ancient times. Not only that, those terrifying extra-dimensional evil gods even wielded the authority over “Void Space,” allowing them to deploy their followers, or even more dangerous offspring of evil gods, into human territory! The resulting destruction was a minor issue compared to the spread of their beliefs and the development of hidden cults.
“Cults, rebellions…are internal mortal threats to humanity…”
“It’s said there’s a black market outside Maple Leaf City where you can sell anything, and there might even be traces of cults…”
“This water is too deep; I’m a good student, you know.”
“Besides, I don’t have enough money…”
The thought of his wallet balance instantly extinguished all his ideas: “From now on, I’ll study hard, work hard…save money diligently. I can’t afford a laser gun, but I can at least buy a stun baton…”
…
Three days later.
[Name: Fang Xing]
[Age: 16]
[Profession: Martial Artist]
[First Realm: Skin and Flesh (Refined Skin: 22/100)]
[Military Boxing Twelve Styles: 57/100 (Beginner)]
[Great Dragon Stake: 68/100 (Beginner)]
[Gate of All Heavens: 5/100 (Locating)]
…
At school, after finishing his Great Dragon Stake practice, Fang Xing stared at his status bar, somewhat silent.
“Three days of hard training, and the fastest growing thing is still the Gate of All Heavens… speechless…”
“My most important Martial Dao realm, Refined Skin, only increased by 1 proficiency point. At this rate, it’ll take me 231 days to perfectly refine my skin, then my flesh…only after both skin and flesh are perfected can I attempt to break through to the second realm of Martial Dao—tendons and bones!”
“Refining skin takes almost a year; refining flesh will be even harder. Not to mention that the one-point increase every three days is just in the early stages; later on, it might be one point every four days, or even five days…”
“Based on this calculation, breaking through to the third realm of Martial Dao before graduation is truly a dream…”
Fang Xing pursed his lips.
Of course, that’s not the whole story. Special nutritional potions and auxiliary training equipment could greatly increase cultivation speed. But these were beyond his reach.
“The only way is the ‘Great Dragon Stake’!”
“Currently, my Great Dragon Stake is still at the beginner level, so the efficiency of refining skin and flesh is naturally low…but once I reach a higher level…the efficiency will be incomparable.”
“Unfortunately, the Great Dragon Stake’s improvement isn’t fast either. The Martial Dao path is truly arduous…”
Fang Xing sighed inwardly.
“Axing…ready to go to work! This time it’s a wealthy area…Huiguang Jiang Mansion, ever heard of it?” Liu Wei came over with a mischievous look, his eyes darting around.
“Oh? That famous wealthy residential area, home to the rich and powerful…” Fang Xing seemed to think of something and a slight smile appeared on his lips: “Someone from school…their family seems to live in Huiguang Jiang Mansion…”
Hearing this, Liu Wei’s face turned slightly red, and he looked around: “Cut the crap, are you going or not?”
“Definitely going!” Fang Xing readily agreed: “I need money…but let’s make it clear, I won’t take any second-realm jobs…”
“Of course, second-realm Martial Artists wouldn’t even look at us…” Liu Wei replied matter-of-factly.
With the Blue Star Federation’s technology, purely physical labor was hard to find. What the original owner and Liu Wei did before was naturally not ordinary work, but—human training posts!
For Martial Artists, beating training posts is ultimately not as effective as beating live people! Some naturally born students have the need to hire human training posts to practice martial arts. ‘The human body is the most complex; specialized training robots do exist, but they’re too extravagant for first-realm Martial Artists. It’s much better to hire people…a matter of cost-effectiveness.’
On the way to Huiguang Jiang Mansion, Fang Xing pondered inwardly.
After getting off the hover train, his eyes lit up. Before him lay a picturesque landscape of green hills and clear waters, dotted with occasional villas, creating a harmonious and antique atmosphere. The streets were clean and tidy, pedestrians were scarce, but each one was impeccably dressed. The environment near Yucai High School was already considered good, but compared to this place, it was like the difference between a chicken and a phoenix.
At the entrance of Huiguang Jiang Mansion, two uniformed security guards stood straight and tall like pines, exuding a mysterious aura. Fang Xing knew at a glance that these two were definitely practicing Great Dragon Stake at the beginner level or above, their aura was sharp and compelling.
‘So this is a wealthy area? Even the security guards are at least third-realm Martial Artists…’ He muttered in his heart, while Liu Wei was already smiling and stepping forward: “Hello, seniors, Brother Wang…a cigarette?”
They had worked here before and were somewhat familiar with the guards, knowing that both were from Yucai High School and were veterans who had survived the battlefield. They wouldn’t have gotten the job if they weren’t tough.
Brother Wang had honest features. He waved his hand, looking righteous: “Little Liu, even if we know each other, we still need to follow the procedure…register first, then have the owner call, and we can let you in!”
“Of course, of course…” Liu Wei nodded repeatedly, gesturing for Fang Xing to register and giving him a wink.
Fang Xing stepped forward, turning his body to block the surveillance camera. He glanced at Liu Wei subtly slipping a pack of cigarettes into Brother Wang’s pocket and nodded: ‘This technique is so skilled…it takes more effort than the Military Boxing Twelve Styles…’
However, Fang Xing understood that even though the devil is easy to appease, the little ghosts are difficult to handle. He could only curse inwardly: ‘Xinghe brand? More than a thousand Star Coins for one pack? That’s a rip-off!’
Brother Wang took the cigarettes, his face beaming: “Got the call; we’ll take you there…it’s the rules.”
As he spoke, he walked towards a magnetic levitation vehicle next to the guardhouse: “Get in!” This was clearly to prevent visitors from wandering around and disturbing other residents.
Fang Xing and Liu Wei got in, and the vehicle immediately lifted off, flying towards a villa. The leather seats were extremely comfortable along the way, without any bumps.
Liu Wei looked around, as if it were his first time here, causing Fang Xing to secretly chuckle, knowing that the other party was looking for his moonlight—Ouyang Qianqian.
Ouyang Qianqian was Liu Wei’s classmate. She had a well-developed figure, fair skin, and large eyes. More importantly—she was a naturally born human!
Although there was no legal gap between naturally born humans and bioengineered humans, the differences in race, resources, and social status alone were enough to make a young man feel hopeless. That’s why Liu Wei had always kept his admiration hidden in his heart; no one in the class knew he had a crush on Ouyang Qianqian except Fang Xing.
Just then, another hovercar approached and crossed paths with theirs. Only one young girl seemed to be in the car.
“Whoa!” Liu Wei suddenly turned his head, his eyes wide, but he quickly shut his mouth.
“Alright, we’re here…” Brother Wang dropped Fang Xing and Liu Wei off at the gate of a villa and then drove away stylishly.
Only then did Liu Wei speak: “Axing, that person just now…was that Bai Lianyin?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t see clearly.” It was just a fleeting glance, but Fang Xing thought there was a 70-80% chance.
“Bai Lianyin is a bioengineered human just like us. How could she afford to live in a place like this? She’s also a top student in our class…but she always disliked associating with us. Could the rumors be true?” Liu Wei’s eyes darted around.
Fang Xing couldn’t help but feel speechless. Bai Lianyin was pretty, and importantly, she had a demure temperament. Her beauty surpassed Ouyang Qianqian’s. Many people in school admired her. Plus, she wasn’t very sociable and didn’t have many close friends, so rumors gradually spread.
“It’s said four hundred (Star Coins) per time…” Liu Wei seemed to be talking to himself.
“Cough cough, don’t believe rumors, don’t spread rumors…and besides…” Fang Xing raised his chin slightly, indicating that the employer was about to come out, and there were surveillance cameras at the door, so Liu Wei shouldn’t be so reckless.
“Sigh…” Liu Wei sighed: “Too bad…I don’t have money.”
Fang Xing looked at him sideways, knowing that Liu Wei had more savings than him, and was even stingier.
‘What about your moonlight, Ouyang Qianqian? Is she still not as good as that cinnabar mole?’ He was about to say something when the villa gate automatically opened, and a girl’s voice came out: “You’re here? Go to the training ground yourselves!”
Fang Xing walked through the garden and came to a flat area. Various wooden posts and racks with weapons were placed around. He sniffed and smelled a strong medicinal scent, knowing that these were specially made posts, soaked in medicinal water to effectively repair bodily damage and invigorate Qi and blood.
A girl stood beside the wooden posts. She had a bun, looked only thirteen or fourteen years old, her face still childish, with delicate features and a very cute appearance. She wore a training suit and carried a wooden knife. The wooden knife was dark red, with clearly visible textures and a greasy luster, as if it had been rubbed countless times.
“My name is Gu Yun, and I hired you.” Gu Yun swung her wooden knife, pointing to a weapon rack: “Do you know what to do? Take two wooden sticks, and let’s practice…”
“This…little sister, isn’t this a bit much? What if we two accidentally injure you…” Liu Wei quickly picked up two wooden sticks, waved them, and made a muffled sound in the air, looking somewhat embarrassed.
Gu Yun raised her eyebrows: “If you can hurt me, I’ll double your pay!”
“Deal!” Liu Wei shouted, holding the sticks with both hands, using a move called “Force Splitting Mount Hua,” and the shadow of the stick fell heavily.
*Slap!* The stick hit the ground, making a crisp sound.
“So fast!” Fang Xing’s face twitched, recalling the little girl’s movements just now, feeling that her footsteps were like a wildcat, as swift as the wind.
“Kill!” As he was pondering, a black shadow flashed beside him, accompanied by a shout, and a knife shadow struck Liu Wei’s shoulder.
“Ahh!” Liu Wei screamed, flying out, his shoulder apparently dislocated. If it had been a real knife, his shoulder and half his body would probably have been cut off.
Liu Wei fell to the ground, looked at Gu Yun, and wailed: “Refined Flesh perfected? And the B-level martial art ‘Demon Knife’? Even second-realm Martial Artists might not be able to beat you! This job is wrong!”
“But I’m only a first-realm Martial Artist, I haven’t broken through yet…” Gu Yun smiled sweetly and looked at Fang Xing: “Your turn…but I’m indeed too strong, so this isn’t effective training…”
She pressed the ring on her wrist, and her clothes suddenly lit up: “Wait for me to activate my gravity suit before we fight!”
