Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds: Duellists Beyond the Light 42
Chapter 42: Speed 42 The Fallen Champion
“Hiss————————————————”
The burning gun muzzle seemed to ignite something, and then, the smell of smoke and sparks appeared in the corridor.
“Click…”
“Click…”
“Click…”
In the darkness, the sound of a cane and footsteps alternated. The big man gritted his teeth, not daring to shout again.
Under the faint light, the mysterious figure who had been hiding in the darkness finally revealed his face. He was quite old, probably between fifty and sixty years old. Knife-like wrinkles and gray stubble hinted at the man’s complicated past. He wore a black suit and held an iron rod, slowly walking over.
The man inserted the gun barrel into the iron rod, assembling it into a cane that was difficult to distinguish from a normal one. He poked the end of the cane into the big man’s gunshot wound. The scream had just begun when it was suppressed again by a vicious and brutal voice.
“Were you questioning this master? Scum…cough cough!”
The big man, covered in cold sweat, lay on the ground, his chattering teeth barely squeezing out a few words: “You…you’re still alive?! You…you’re Thief Kiss…ah!!!!!!”
His words were cut short as the cane plunged into the bleeding wound. Large amounts of money scattered from his hands, but he didn’t dare to pick it up. He could only struggle and gasp on the ground like a dying stray dog.
“Thief… I’ve almost forgotten that nickname~ heh!” The weathered and ruthless middle-aged man sneered.
“Alright, Mr. Kiss, let this guy get lost,” the fat man said indifferently after coldly watching the scene. “Don’t let this trash waste your time.”
Kiss Howard shrugged his mouth and raised the cane.
The man who had been shot in the leg used all his strength to pull himself up against the wall. He didn’t even pick up the money on the ground, but staggered away…
“Thief Kiss,” was the nickname of Keith Howard, the All-American champion from the early days of the Muto Yugi era (referring to a prominent character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise). He earned the moniker “Thief” because winning prize money was as easy as picking something from one’s pocket. However, due to various reasons, he fell from a top player to an underground duelist, and after two major defeats, he went into hiding, only appearing in underground venues.
Kiss Howard was at his peak at the age of twenty-nine, and his decline began at thirty.
In his forty-first year, a famous terrorist incident occurred in Domino City – the Midnight Reverse Incident – but he happened to be out dodging debts, so he luckily escaped that catastrophe.
When he returned to Domino City, most of his creditors were dead, so he decided to stay in Satellite City and continue to earn a living as an underground duelist…
Kiss Howard adjusted his dark hat and looked at his employer with cloudy eyes: “Alright, what do you want this time? You should know my fee and preferences.”
The shrewd fat man was of course well aware that this fallen underground duelist now only cared about money. His fee was almost second only to the King of Satellite – Jack Atlas – but he never used Synchro Monsters, nor did he engage in Speed Duels. He only fought in his own familiar way.
“You can rest assured about the reward,” the fat man chuckled. “As long as you win the final match, it will be enough.”
Kiss Howard sneered: “Only appearing in the finals, that doesn’t seem to be in line with your rules?”
The fat man smiled: “Don’t worry, everything’s been arranged.”
Kiss Howard raised an eyebrow, took a square flask from his bosom, and poured some liquor into his mouth. After swallowing a large gulp, he wiped his mouth with his sleeve and said indifferently: “If that’s the case, then I’ll be going. Cough cough…Thursday, right?”
“Yes, Thursday,” the fat man repeated.
Kiss Howard nodded, slowly walked away with one hand on his cane, continuing to drink his liquor.
After the man disappeared at the end of the corridor, the fat man glanced at the blood-stained money on the floor, scoffed, and returned to his foul-smelling old spot…
The next day, afternoon.
That day, You Qing got up early, getting up before three o’clock.
For someone who spent a long time roaming at night, this was indeed a rare early rise.
After a quick wash, he rode his D-Wheel, which was now officially his, towards Red-Eyes Street as previously agreed.
After the incident with the Blackwing Team, You Qing didn’t really want to get involved with underground gangs, but whether it was the outcome of the event or for the purpose of upgrading his D-Wheel, he ultimately decided to keep the appointment.
“Screech——————————————————”
The brakes stopped in front of a statue of a Red-Eyes Black Dragon, which was made of old car parts, yet was lifelike, even more exquisite than the White Dragon in the Dockyard Black Market.
“Hey! You Qing!!” Chiyan Lingshi, who was adjusting his D-Wheel, walked out of the garage and waved with a smile, “First time here, huh? This whole street is related to the Red-Eyes Black Dragon, it’s a tribute to the legendary duelist – Jonouchi Katsuya.” (Jonouchi Katsuya is a character from Yu-Gi-Oh!)
You Qing responded with a greeting.
Chiyan Lingshi walked to the gate of the garage. Several Wildfire Team members who were repairing cars saw him and walked out, starting to inspect You Qing’s D-Wheel.
“Because of the trouble the Wildfire Team encountered, we will definitely help,” Chiyan Lingshi said proudly. “This time, let’s upgrade your D-Wheel. Yours is practically falling apart.”
Due to their first encounter, You Qing didn’t have a very good impression of this guy, but after several interactions, he found that he was a man of his word, at least unlike those scoundrels from the Tisse Creed gang.
Several data cables were pulled over and connected to You Qing’s D-Wheel.
As if knowing that You Qing didn’t understand much about the D-Wheel’s structure and system, Chiyan Lingshi explained while his men inspected it:
“Although a D-Wheel looks like a motorcycle, the biggest factor affecting its speed is actually the internal chip.”
“Using some booster equipment can improve the D-Wheel’s performance under specific conditions.”
“But their combined effect is absolutely not as great as a single chip.”
As he spoke, the data from You Qing’s D-Wheel was imported into the computer.
Chiyan Lingshi glanced at the panel, skillfully opened the hood, and a circle of dust rose. He waved his hand in front of his mouth and nose, then used a nearby mechanic’s glove to gently wipe off the dust from the motherboard.
Under the bright sunlight, a faint metallic luster shone from a small chip.
You Qing could see its information and manufacturing date through the computer.
This was an outdated chip, several generations old.
