Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds: Duellists Beyond the Light 60
Chapter 60: Speed 60 Thief
Mr. Sengzheng’s physique was unusually imposing. Normally, his large clothing concealed it somewhat, but once he sat in Decade’s cramped car, his imposing stature became immediately apparent.
Yu Qing looked in the rearview mirror. He saw Sengzheng alone occupied almost half the back seat, his head slightly bowed. Yu Qing estimated the old man was at least sixty, yet this old man was nearly six feet tall, with a physique that rivaled his own as a professional racer.
Decade was also secretly shocked. Although Yu Qing had mentioned this person in the evening, he couldn’t help but be amazed.
The quality of life in Satellite District was notoriously low; many people struggled to even eat, yet this elderly man maintained such an impressive physique – it was truly unbelievable.
“Mr., Mr. Sengzheng,” Decade said cautiously, “Where are you going?”
Sengzheng remained bowed, simply replying, “E29, Kajiki Street, number 767.”
Kajiki Street?
Yu Qing felt a sense of familiarity.
He seemed to recall a DM series duelist who used a Sea Serpent deck had the surname “Kajiki.” Was this street, like Red-Eyes Street, a tribute to veteran duelists?
“Okay, okay!” Decade turned back to concentrate on driving. E District wasn’t far from F District, it was relatively convenient.
Yu Qing asked, “Mr. Sengzheng, what is it you need to tell us? What about tomorrow’s final?”
In the reflection of the rearview mirror, Sengzheng’s expression was somewhat gloomy. He spoke in a hoarse yet powerful voice, “I suspect you’ve both realized that this underground duel tournament isn’t as simple as you think.”
“Someone is manipulating things behind the scenes.”
“They’ve suppressed your odds to the lowest, then plan to make a killing from a shocking upset victory.”
“And tomorrow, the final match, they will do everything in their power to make you lose.”
Yu Qing and Decade had indeed noticed this.
Decade was puzzled, “But I’ve never understood, if they really wanted to make money by manipulation, they could simply bribe Yu Qing to lose intentionally. Why haven’t they contacted us until now?”
“There’s only one match tomorrow; they didn’t mention it today, and there will be no time tomorrow night.”
“Are they so confident that the opponent they’ve found can defeat Yu Qing?”
Sengzheng replied, “Yu Qing is a newcomer to this underground duel scene. A strong newcomer suddenly losing after a winning streak is highly suspicious.”
“After this tournament, other organizations will certainly investigate this underground duel arena secretly. If they actually bribed Yu Qing, it would be easy to expose them, and their future business would be ruined.”
Yu Qing mused, “So they’ve been buying off my opponents… They were confident they could control all those guys I’ve faced. Compared to making a deal with an unknown rookie, this risk is indeed much smaller…”
“Exactly,” Sengzheng’s eyes flashed with a touch of grimness, “They won’t control you; instead, they’ll distance themselves from you and manipulate your opponents.”
“They won’t cash out during your duel with Jack, because most people will support Jack, the profit margin wouldn’t be high.”
“Therefore, tomorrow is when they strike. The duelist they send will stop at nothing to defeat you.”
“But, Yu Qing, you cannot lose, you must win as quickly as possible!”
Yu Qing and Decade were both stunned.
Sengzheng didn’t explain directly, but asked Yu Qing, “Do you know who the underground duel arena has assigned as your opponent tomorrow?”
Yu Qing recalled, “A mysterious person in a black cloak, almost no one knows his name or identity…”
Sengzheng’s voice turned icy, “He’s merely a pawn, easily replaced. When tomorrow’s final begins, your opponent will become a bounty hunter who shone brightly during the Muto Yugi era – Thief Keith!”
Thief Keith?!
This guy is still alive?!
Upon hearing the name, Yu Qing and Decade were both greatly shocked.
Decade instinctively slammed on the brakes, the car jolting violently.
Amidst the violent shaking, the stunned Yu Qing thought rapidly.
In the original story, Thief Keith had a terrible reputation, a ruthless underground duelist, and one of the few who cheated during duels!
Such a person, might be similar to Tis Creed, whom Yu Qing encountered at the Black Street High-Speed Duel Arena; even if he lost a duel, he would act without regard for morals or dignity.
Yu Qing gritted his teeth.
At this stage of the competition, he couldn’t withdraw. Those people wouldn’t let him leave after making some money.
But dueling Thief Keith was extremely risky; even winning might lead to unexpected trouble.
Yu Qing felt this was a duel with high risk and low reward, and he saw no reason to fight it out; a quick end would be best.
But why did Mr. Sengzheng insist he win quickly?
Just as he wondered, Mr. Sengzheng finally gave the answer: “Yu Qing, you’ve been troubled by that guy, Niuwei Zhe, haven’t you?”
“Lately, because of your connection to the Security Management Bureau, he seems to be hesitant to act against you.”
“But in reality, he’s secretly plotting an operation, and tonight is when he strikes.”
“He will lead the Security Team to raid the underground duel arena, arresting all the underground duelists, especially you.”
“If this duel drags on, you won’t have a chance to escape, so you must finish quickly.”
“Don’t even think about finishing like your opponent today, in two or three rounds. That Thief Keith hasn’t dueled in a long time, but once he does, he will unleash everything.”
“Even if he has the chance to defeat you directly, he will toy with you, prolonging the match.”
After Sengzheng’s explanation, both Yu Qing and Decade felt a chill down their spines.
Yu Qing had unwittingly been placed in a very dangerous situation.
They couldn’t withdraw from the tournament, because Yu Qing’s sudden disappearance, combined with the Security Team’s raid, would lead to him being mistaken for a Security Management Bureau informant, and then they would face endless retaliation.
Once the duel began, Yu Qing had to win as quickly as possible, because Thief Keith enjoyed the feeling of a cat playing with a mouse, and he wouldn’t let the match end easily.
Late at night, a cold wind blew constantly through the car window.
After a long silence, Decade parked the car in front of the Polar Ice Flow Dojo.
Sengzheng left, leaving only Yu Qing and Decade in the darkness.
They had to prepare thoroughly for tomorrow night’s match!
